The holiday season is stressful. There is no way to escape all of the various commitments that come with family, shopping, work, and parties. But we can take time to escape from the chaos and ensure our own health and sanity! Here are five ways to help make this holiday season a little more manageable.

We can get so busy at this time of the year that we forget to make time for ourselves. Take a moment to close your eyes, empty your mind, and just breathe. When you feel yourself getting too stressed out, why not get a massage, take a relaxing bath, or do some yoga.

Eat healthy!

Tis the season for sweet and decadent treats, but while these goodies taste great at the time, our bodies usually don’t feel sogreat later. During this holiday season, remember to eat foods with a good amount of nutrients in them like fruits and veggies. Don’t be to strict though – indulge a little in a treat here and a drink there. Just remember moderation is key! Not only will your body feel better, but your mind will be clearer and more ready to handle the holiday chaos.

Stay active!

With so many commitments during the holidays, we can find it difficult to maintain an exercise routine, but staying active is a key ingredient to handling holiday stress. You can take a walk to clear you mind after a hectic day, or you could do some kickboxing to release some of your frustration. Not only will you feel more calm after the exercise, but you’ll also get a head start on your healthy New Year’s resolution.

Let people help!

We all like to think we can do everything by ourselves. We can’t. And that’s okay! When you are feeling especially stressed about cooking, shopping, cleaning, etc., ask for help. Letting other people help you out during the holiday season will clear up your schedule a bit and also bring you and loved ones closer together. Just picture baking some holiday cookies for a party – it’s a lot nicer with some loved ones helping in the kitchen!

Enjoy the holiday season!

So often we are busy with parties, shopping, traveling that we don’t take time to enjoy the activities we participate in during the holidays. While you are out shopping, take a minute to sit on the bench and admire the decorations. During your holiday party, remember to eat some of those goodies you baked. Enjoy the company of family and friends you might not have seen in a while. At the end of the day, the memories you make with the people you love is what the season is all about.
