Deep Massage” is a modality that is uniquely incorporated into the curriculum and continuing education at Lauterstein-Conway Massage School.  What makes it different and tremendously useful?

Here’s a little info on what Deep Massage is and its origins. In 1979 I studied at the Chicago School of Massage Therapy and became a teacher there in 1982. That year I also certified in “Structural Bodywork” with Daniel Blake, an early student of Ida Rolf. He opened my eyes to the detailed miracle of anatomy that each person is. Soon thereafter I was attracted to cranio-sacral work.  Just as Rolfing had blown my mind through its brilliant engagement of the muscles and fascia, cranial work taught me that very light touch with high levels of sensitivity can affect the person as much or more than Deep Tissue approaches. So I changed the name of what I was then teaching from “Deep Tissue” to “Deep Massage” – focusing on quality of touch, not quantity of pressure. Then in 1986 I was attracted to Zero Balancing and began studying with its founder, Dr. Fritz Smith. ZB gave me new techniques and concepts to not only to affect the structure deeply but also the person’s energy. High quality of touch results in the client’s nervous system/energy letting go from inside out – rather than the deep tissue model in which the therapist uses lots of pressure from outside in.

In working with the neck using Deep Massage

  1. We review the essentials of neck anatomy – especially the suboccipital muscles, trapezius, semispinalis, the rotatores, and scalenes, the second most important muscles in respiration.
  2. You will learn effective Deep Massage and Zero Balancing techniques (“fulcrums”) for all these important muscles.
  3. You will incorporate more understanding for the role the neck plays in our lives connecting body and mind, being the passageway for nourishment, breath, voice, and heart.
  4. You will learn how to cultivate the ability to help the person let go from inside out.

I am thrilled to have you join in and enjoy this unique workshop with new techniques, concepts and refinements that will, the very next day, add new dimensions and benefits to your work.
